"... acceptable in God's sight,..."
By: Rev. Joostens
As my thoughts turned to a series of meditations to be featured
here, there came to mind the last verse of Psalm 19; "..let the
words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in
thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer."
The whole Psalm is striking in its beauty and
composition! Read it and you will discover that David begins
by reminding us that the whole of God's vast and wonderful creation
is a continual refrain of praise to His majesty from the majestic
nature of the heavens, to the sun who daily runs His circuit through
it. But the main emphasis of the Psalm falls upon the law of
God! The psalmist lauds its character as it serves to guide us
in the way of God's glory. Though we often are inclined to
think of the Law as it inhibits us, David sees it quite
differently. We do well to mark that and to learn to share in
the joy of the words he penned by inspiration. Study this
Psalm and learn the many faceted virtues that are ascribed to the
Law of God. Among others, it is perfect converting the soul;
its testimony makes wise the simple; in its purity it enlightens the
eyes; it has the capacity to warn us from ways of wickedness and
renders a great reward! No wonder the precepts of the Lord are
desirable above even the finest gold and sweeter than honey from a
comb.
Children of God, have we considered the immense value
of God's laws and precepts, the tremendous worth of His
commandments? To help us answer that, consider a moment the
weakness of our own flesh which gravitates toward folly and so
easily persuades us to partake of sinfulness. Truly the
warning and guidance of God's precepts must be of immeasurable
value to us! May the following versification of Ps. 19:14 ever
be our prayerful desire so that our whole life and being may join
the chorus of creation to God's praise.

When
thou doest search my life,
May all my thoughts within
And all the words I speak
Thy full approval win.
O Lord, Thou art a rock to me,
And my redeemer Thou shalt be. |
